Barker Driver Training
Making learning to drive fun, inclusive, and stress-free—whether you’re a new learner, need a refresher, or want ADI training!
We are Phil (he/him) and Debs (she/her). We are driving instructors covering Brighton, Hove, Eastbourne, Polegate, Seaford and Hailsham. We pride ourselves on passing on our knowledge and skills in an easy to understand way, and creating lessons that are inclusive and enjoyable. We teach new learners, give refresher lessons to qualified drivers, and give ADI training. We are trained mental health first aiders and have a lot of experience teaching those with anxiety.
We also have training in Neurodiversities, Safeguarding, and Equality and Diversity.
“I qualified in 2005 and my favourite part of the job is helping someone achieve their dream of passing the test, especially if they felt they’d never be able to drive a car.
My dream car? If I can afford my dream car then I can afford several cars! Which do I pick? Probably a 1968-1969 Dodge Charger. It’ll always break down but I could use one of my many other dream cars as back up. Oh and I love the smell of exhaust fumes from a classic car (pre catalytic converter).”
“I qualified in 2013 and love seeing a pupil drive themselves home for the first time. It’s a great milestone, and gives them such a feeling of pride! That’s when they start feeling like they’re a ‘proper driver’. My dream car is a Jaguar F type, or maybe a split screen VW camper, or both! But they must have a cup holder for my tea; I can’t go too long without a cuppa!”

I’m Reggie – the real boss of the company! I may not drive the cars, or teach, or have anything to do with planning lessons or running the business, but we all know who’s in charge really. My role is to make sure Phil and Debs don’t work TOO hard – I make sure they take regular breaks to play ball, or give me treats, and I let them know when the working day is over with cuddles and licks. I’m sure you will hear plenty of stories about funny things I’ve done on your lessons!
